Annual Gala & Silent Auction
|
The Hamilton Hill Arts Center is please to announce that our Annual Gala and Silent Auction was a success! The night was truly memorable from the moment we arrived. Those in attendance had a wonderful time, and if you missed it, you missed an evening of dancing, fine dining, exciting entertainment, friends and family. The Glen Sanders Mansion outdid themselves with the menu, which was inspired just for the occasion: Jerk chicken and Sole, served with Collard Greens and Sweet Potato Casserole. Vegatarians were treated to Butternut Squash Ravioli, served with Sage Brown Butter, shaved Manchego Cheese and toasted walnuts. The menu paid homage to African-American cuisine--Soul Food, and did not disappoint. This, along with African inspired hors d'Oeuvres (Akara and African Samosas) made for a feast for the body and spirit. Other dishes included, Sesame crusted Thai chicken skewers with plum wine, and Shrimp Wellington. Special thanks to the staff at Glen Sanders for putting this menu together and for providing service that was second to none. |
Not to be outdone by the food, the evening's entertainment was phenominal. Guests were greeted with the sounds of our Steel Drum Band when they arrived. These young ladies have worked all year and it showed. Look for bigger and better things from this group in the future. Umoja, the Arts Center's African Dance and Drum Troupe were next to perform. Once again, the audience was treated to a wonderful performnace by some of Schenectady's finest. The perfromance was exciting and energetic. The group generates a lot of interest and are true cultural ambassadors. Next was Colaberayshen, who provided the dancing music. Playing for a number of years now, their set left many seats empty. The audience was also treated to the Electric Slide, and the Cuban Shuttle. All in all a great evening.
The Annual Gala and Silent Auction is the Arts Center's biggest fundraising event of the year, and while it truly was an elegant evening, the proceeds will benefit the Arts Center, allowing us to continue providing free and low cost programs for families throughout the Capital Region. This event set the bar and next year's event promises to be even better. We look forward to seeing you there!
